Hi, I'm Adam, the director of Nurturing Mindz psychological services.

I've been working with children and families for over 25 years. In this time I have realised my greatest assets as a teacher and as a psychologist are my patience, my deep empathy, and my ability to view the world through the eyes of a child. I am committed to supporting the growth and empowerment of children by helping them discover and effectively use their own unique abilities and attributes.

As a music specialist, I've worked with children with various neuro developmental difficulties.

I found this especially rewarding and returned to tertiary study to learn more about musical activity and vulnerable populations. I completed a Bachelor of Science degree (Hons) with a focus on the music and the mind, then completed a Graduate Diploma of Psychology, a Master of Developmental and Educational Psychology and a Doctorate of Philosophy.

My PhD researched links between musical skills (especially rhythmic skills) and academic learning. I spent 5 years as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Western Australia and the University of Notre Dame examining family focused interventions for children with dyslexia and the neural basis of motor system disorders.

Throughout my research career, I have sought a deeper understanding of normal and abnormal child development and how to use this knowledge to improve the wellbeing of children and their families.

Although I still hold a research position at the University of Notre Dame, working directly with children/families to improve their overall wellbeing is my true joy. For this reason, I have returned to working directly with children and their families at my private practice Nurturing Mindz.

I continue to undertake professional development focusing on methods to improve child and family wellbeing.
